There is so, so much great stuff coming out of Australia at the moment, we’re finding it hard to keep up.
The latest to cross our radar are Hobart’s The Native Cats, though they’ve been around for some time. Electronic pub-rock iconoclasts, they’ve gone through quite a bit, including but not limited to the transition of Chloe Ellison. The tracks that make up the new album John Sharp Toro had lain unused for a year while she transitioned but finally made it to publication in February.
Julian Teakle takes up the bass as ever – using bass as a lead instrument seems to be in vogue these days, which is nice – and drives everything along. This was all well worth the wait.
