The Men… return with a new album, fittingly titled Double Negative showcasing their steampunk/horrorpunk/Victorian punk proclivities.
We feature Baby Farmer, the tale of Amelia Dyer, a Victorian would-be foster parent who was one of the most prolific serial killers in history. Offering to take babies in from impoverished parents, she’d take a fee and then kill the kids, disposing of the bodies in the Thames. Exact numbers aren’t clear, but 400 is not an unreasonable estimate.
This tale has been given the The Men… treatment on an album specifically designed, it seems, to tell us that although things are shit now, thank fuck you weren’t around in the late 1800s. The vaudevillians aspects of their act are gone – this is fused of almost pure rage. The parallels with modern society have been drawn and The Men… have had enough.
