“A dark and moody look at a topical subject”, says the blurb on Barnsley’s High Rise Finale’s latest single.

Their modus operandum is inspired by 1980s synth-pop and indie traditions and bringing that into the modern era. Singer and lyricist Matt Bailey – also of The Salient Braves – turns his pen to often more meatier subjects and the title of this record doesn’t particularly hide what we’re addressing here. Backed with producer Neil Ritchie’s synths, the aim is “to develop a classic electronic sound but with lyrics that paint a picture of some of the deeper and broodier side of society and the modern world we live in.” Job done.
