After a couple of EPs, Barnsley’s Matt Bailey and his Salient Braves have released their first long-player. “Barnsley’s best-kept indie secret” have a record full of warmth, with and charm.
The singles we’ve heard before are present here – They Must Have Seen Me Coming, Guilty Until Proven Innocent – and set the album up nicely. The song writing is high level and Bailey’s delicate voice matches the jangly indie-pop nicely. And in My Alter Ego, he manages to buck the accepted notion round these parts that there’s no song that can’t be ruined by having a child sing on it.
The digital version also includes three bonus tracks, but the 12″ is a thing of beauty.
