Renaissance man Billy Childish returns with his band CTMF (Chatham Forts, that is) with their fifth LP in the last five years.
As a leading light of the Stuckist art movement, that which during the modern art age promoted a return to more traditional representative art, Childish applies many of the same principles to his music. And therefore what follows shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone familiar with his music. It’s straight-up garage rock and knowing what you’re getting doesn’t make it any less good or interesting. “We’re like a cherry tree in the garden”, explains Chilidsh, “that nobody can be bothered to scrump cos it has slightly undersized fruit which has not been standardised for a supermarket. But we’re the real thing and the jays and the crows like us.”
