A debut single from the new voice of Australian hip-hop. Danzel Baker, from the Northern Territories, blends English and Yolngu Matha in this upfront and confident record.
The voice of the Indigenous Australian populous has long been quietened. Baker sees to it that that is no longer the case with this unignorable debut. Just 20 years old, Baker has already packed plenty into his life and looks set for stardom. He’s the first to use an Indigenous language in his music while 14-year old Kian Brownfield lends vocals to the chorus.
The Indigenous communities have several unique problems, largely centering around drink and drug abuse. Baker’s intention is to become a role model for kids in those remote communities using traditional culture to reach out. More power to his elbow.
