Another reason why anyone scoffing at Hull being the UK City Of Culture, Vanishing is the spoken word project of Gareth Smith – Manchester-based now, but very much Hull in origin.

It’s bleak. So is the video, featuring Gwen Osmond dancing against the backdrop of Hull’s old docklands with the grey Humber alongside. Ostensibly, it’s Smith’s outlet for the anxieties that these dark times in which we live give rise to.
There are a number of guests on the record, most notably Paddy Shine of Salford noise-rockers Gnod who supplies a lot of the music.
Brighton 84 appears on Vanishing’s self-titled debut LP.
