Coming from Tunisia’s south and utilising adorcist rites and trance of the Muslim saint Sidi Marzûq as practised by the Banga community with a post-industrial soundtrack, this is Ifriqiyya Electrique.
You have never and will never hear anything quite like this. The five-piece band combine drums, bass, guitar and samples to a backdrop of footage of these rituals for a full multimedia experience. Their debut album, Rûwâhîne, is out soon and they’ll be at some major festivals during the year, WOMAD and Glastonbury among them. Check them out for a unique experience.
