RETURN OF JUDGE ROUGHNECK BY NEVILLE STAPLE

Founder member of The Specials and Fun Boy Three, Neville Staple pauses from touring with one of the versions of The Specials to bring us a record of his own.

The intro borrows from Gangsters, so you know immediately you’re on safe ground. It’s a straight-up ska skankathon with the Judge barking out his summation of events intermittently. It may be a slightly more simplistic version of events that, say, Gnod present to us, but to cram in a lot of nuance would remove time for trumpet solos and other such ska staples (no pun etc), so we’ll let him off.
This is the title track to the new album which came out in February.
