While 2016 claimed the lives of dozens of our favourite artists, one to survive the cull was Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry who recently celebrated his 81st birthday. The evergreen innovator is one of a number of collaborators who have been brought in by Coldcut on their forthcoming LP.
Due out in May, Outside The Echo Chamber is an album of electronic dub-pop and the first release from it features the venerable Mr Perry, Junior Reid and Elan adding lyrical fire to heavy dub rhythm backed by Glasgow soundsystem Mungo’s Hi Fi. And we cannot stop listening to it.
Elsewhere, the album feature Roots Manuva and Toddla T among many others and if the rest is anything like as good as this track, we’re all in for a treat. Crank the bass.
