Knuckle’s debut EP, This Week’s Been Hell, was cut-back and raw blues-rock. Jonny Firth on guitar and Ben Wallbanks on drums created all the racket you needed. Now Rob Crisp joins on bass and takes them to a new level on forthcoming EP Strangers & Freaks.

The addition of Crisp allows Firth to do less of the heavy lifting and, consequently, to show off some more. This is fine as he is a consummate showman. Crisp also brings harmonies to the vocals and while the risk remains that adding a more rounded sound shaves off the raw edges that make Knuckle so compelling to watch, they’ve managed to avoid it. They remain among the best live acts around and will be playing a number of dates around Yorkshire throughout April and May. Go see them. You will not regret it.

You’ll be able to get the EP from bandcamp and selected northern record stores upon release on April 8. Follow @weareknuckle
